Achilles International - South Florida is a 501(c) 3 organization whose mission is to enable people with all types of disabilities to participate in mainstream athletics, promote personal achievement, enhance self- esteem, and lower barriers. Founded in NYC in 1983, the organization serves all ages and abilities in cities around the US and in 70 countries around the world. The Achilles FREEDOM TEAM of Wounded Vets primarily serves military personnel injured in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Achilles KIDS program serves our children with disabilities through the adaptive physical education department of the school system. Each Achilles athlete sets goals and trains according to their speed and ability. Some run, some walk, others roll in their wheelchairs. Their focus is to give each individual the opportunity to achieve what they feel is possible in their lives.
